Beyond the Mask of Anger

I used to think anger was the problem. That frustration, resentment, and the fire in my chest were about something – or someone – outside of me. But I’ve come to realise that anger is rarely just anger. More often, it’s a mask. A shield. A way to keep us from looking too closely at what truly aches beneath the surface.

Because the truth? The truth is painful.

It’s painful to realize you’ve been standing still when you were meant to move.
It’s painful to see the years pass and wonder where they went.
It’s painful to wake up and know – deep down – that you’ve been holding yourself back.

And that kind of pain? It’s unbearable. So we armour up. We wear anger like protection, convincing ourselves that the problem is out there when, in reality, the storm is within.

I know, because I’ve done it. I’ve pointed fingers. I’ve blamed circumstances. I’ve carried resentment like it was righteous, only to realise that all of it – the frustration, the bitterness – wasn’t about the world.

It was about me.

It was about the dreams I abandoned because fear whispered, Not yet.
It was about the version of myself I left behind to fit into spaces that never saw me.
It was about the grief of knowing I was meant for more and pretending I wasn’t.

Because beneath anger, that’s what I found – grief.

Grief for the time lost.
Grief for the choices I didn’t make.
Grief for the moments I let slip away while waiting for a ‘someday’ that never came.

And maybe you’ve felt it too. Maybe the anger you carry isn’t anger at all – it’s sadness, unspoken and unresolved.

If that’s the case, let me tell you what I’ve learned: Anger won’t heal grief. Avoidance won’t bring peace. The only way forward is through.

And on the other side?

Freedom.

Freedom from regret.
Freedom from waiting.
Freedom to start again – with your whole soul on fire.

But there’s one more piece – forgiveness.

Because healing isn’t just about moving forward; it’s about letting go. It’s about releasing the resentment, not just toward others, but toward yourself.

Forgive yourself for the time you lost.
Forgive yourself for the mistakes you made.
Forgive yourself for not knowing then what you know now.

You can’t change the past, but you can stop carrying it. You can make peace with the road behind you so you can finally walk freely toward what’s ahead.

So today, I invite you to sit with yourself. To ask the hard questions. To let yourself feel what’s been hidden for too long.

And when you’re ready – truly ready – stand up.

Because your life is still waiting. And it’s not too late to live it.
